Sweets and Eats Around Buffalo - Part 1

Growing up in Buffalo, I have always known how fabulous our food is here. As a true Buffalonian, I am proud to live here and have made it my mission to support small and local as much as possible. I woke up last week and thought how fun would it be to devote an entire day to visiting and tasting goodies from as many places as I could squeeze in. I wrote out my list (18 places total! ) and decided a list this long would require a Part 1 and a Part 2. I then broke my list down by location and decided to start with Kenmore, Buffalo and North Buffalo.

Stop #1 - Fig Tree Patisserie

Located in the Village of Kenmore, Fig Tree Patisserie is an adorable shop filled with color and life. It’s a woman owned business and on any given day you can find Vegan, Gluten Free and Keto friendly desserts here. She has something for everyone! I have sampled cake, cupcakes and of course her delish macarons. My favorite is definitely the chocolate covered strawberry macaron! She also makes the most beautiful number cakes for special occasions. Add this place to your list if you’re looking for fun and tasty desserts.

Stop #2 - Butter Block

Located in the Five Points neighborhood of Buffalo, Butter Block is a fairly new resident to the area. I have been a fan for many years, taking advantage of their holiday orders and seeking them out at Farmers Markets. Some of my favorites are the delicious buttery croissants and homemade pop tarts. I have not been able to enjoy their beautiful space on Rhode Island yet, but cannot wait for their doors to open for indoor dining. Butter Block gets a 10/10 from me! Pro Tip: Get here early!! Things sell out!

Stop #3 - The Sweet Whisk

Located in the Chandler Street District, the Sweet Whisk is my go to for beautiful chocolate bon bons and unique desserts. I first found this shop during the holidays when Hot Chocolate Bombs were all the rage. I placed a preorder for the bombs from seeing a post on Instagram and when I went to pickup, I was blown away. I have been back many times since then and try to purchase something different each time. I highly recommend everything here!

Stop #4 - Nikki’s Chocolates

Also located in the Chandler Street District, Nikki’s Chocolates is a great place for all of those instagram worthy desserts. I first discovered her store when I was searching for a local place to make breakable hearts for Valentine’s Day gifts for my kids. I went on a Saturday morning to place my order. The staff was so friendly and helpful and I knew then that I would be a repeat customer! When I recently saw that she was selling ice cream cones full of cheesecake, I knew it was time for a visit. I ordered the cookies & cream cheesecake and it was so good. I am really looking forward to her summer flavors. Make sure to check her store out!

Stop # 5 - Wonder Coffeehouse

Wonder Coffeehouse is located in downtown Buffalo, right next to Buffalo River works and down the street from the General Mills Plant. If waffles are your thing, this is the place for you!! I was here on a Saturday around 1 pm and it was packed. People eating inside, eating outside in the repurposed shipping containers and plenty waiting in line. Since I had already sampled a few desserts I opted for the grilled cheese waffle (yum) and my friends each chose a S’more and a Blueberry/Brie waffle. I also purchased a Little Wonder to bring home for later. One of my favorite things about Wonder Is the fact that they have a drive thru. Order ahead and skip the line! Definitely add this place to your list of spots to hit this summer!

*323 Ganson Street, Buffalo, NY 14203 (Open everyday from 8-4 pm)

Are you still with me???? Haha!

Stop #6 - Cookies & Cream

Located in South Buffalo, this ice cream shop has been on my list to visit for a while and it was worth the wait! Now mind you, I was pretty full at this point so I did not consume my whole sundae! I was very impressed with Cookies and Cream and here is why: they offer two different sized house made ice cream cakes and they also offer a Cookie Tower. All of these are great for a birthday or other type of party, especially if you are looking for something besides a traditional cake. I ordered the Sugar Cookie Signature Sundae that had a giant sugar cookie, brownies, hot fudge, whipped cream and sprinkles. I also grabbed a candy cookie to bring home for the kids. I can’t wait to go back when I can actually eat more!

*2114 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY 14210 (Hours are every day 2pm-10pm)

Quick mural stop in the Cobblestone District and to grab a bite and a smoking cocktail at Panorama on Seven in the Marriott Harbor Center.

Stop # 7 - Hertel Avenue Poutine & Cream

Located in North Buffalo, right in the heart of Hertel Ave is Poutine & Cream. The menu consists of all kinds of Poutine, spiked milkshakes, freak shakes and other items. I ordered one of their newest menu items, the Mimosa slushie. It was so good and refreshing and would be a killer summer drink. My friends opted for an Irish Cream spiked milkshake and a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Horchata spiked milkshake. They both really enjoyed what they ordered but we were all so full at that point! Unfortunately the fryer was broken when we visited so I was unable to sample any of the poutine, but I hope to try some on my next visit. There is a decent amount of outdoor seating so this would be a great summer stop either with the family or the girls.

*1488 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14216 (Open Monday -Sunday 2- 10 pm)

What a day this was with my girls! So much fun! I cannot wait to schedule Part 2. I would love to hear about your favorite dessert places in and around Buffalo so drop me a comment below! Hey, I may even end up with a part 3
