Ohio Road Trip

I was scrolling Instagram a few months ago and came across a pic of a place called Ash Cave. I clicked the geotag and couldn’t believe my eyes that it was located in a park in Ohio. What?? I immediately opened my Apple Maps and put in directions to Ash Cave and discovered it was located in Hocking Hills State Park. Only six hours?? Sign me up! I began to research the area and I ended up falling down a rabbit hole of cool airbnbs and cabins. Within that search I came across The Mohicans Treehouses and fell in love. We will get to the treehouse but first I have to talk about our stop in Cleveland!

Since my friends and I left early in the morning from Buffalo, NY we decided to stop in Cleveland for a break in the drive and check out a few spots. This is where we went:

  • Brewnuts Donuts - my favorite was the Peanut Butter/Cheese cracker combo

  • Oceanne Jewelry - our awesome Cleveland Babe sweatshirts!!

  • Bett’s - for lunch in a greenhouse!

  • Van Aken District - we decided to stop here to get dinner for our night in the treehouse. So glad we did! We picked up a cheese board, pasta and pizza for later and iced teas for the road. I would love to stop here again sometime.

  • Brandywine Falls - our last stop before the tree house! An easy walk down to the falls ands so beautiful!

We hit the road after our Cleveland stops and made our way to Glenmont, Ohio to check into the Mohican Treehouse Resort. The resort is located about an hour and a half from Cleveland. First I would just like to say how much I loved it here and cannot wait to go back!! We booked the Tin Shed treehouse because of its unique entrance. Getting in takes a bit of courage and faith. Let me explain.. First you must climb a 25 ft spiral staircase and then cross a 100 ft extension bridge. Yes, the bridge sways when you walk on it! We were lucky that it was a warm day and the snow and ice had melted. My advice is to pack light (haha) and bring food to cook or takeout! The cost for our one night reservation was $468.

The next morning we were treated to a beautiful sunrise, had our coffee and packed up to head to the next destination. Our next two nights would be spent at the Chalets at Hocking Hills and we were anxious to get there. Hocking Hills is about a two hour drive from where the treehouse was. The cost of our Chalet reservation for two nights was $740.

Located right in the heart of Hocking Hills are the coolest sauna pods. You can reserve them for one or two hours and they hold up to four people. Towels and water are provided but keep in mind there is only a small space to change and no bathroom. There is bluetooth in the pod so you can play whatever mood music you want. For our two hour rental the cost was $100.

After the sauna pods we decided to explore Ash Cave and Cascade Falls since we couldn’t check in yet and we were already sweaty!. These are only two of the many trails in Hocking Hills. Ash cave will make your jaw drop with its size and beauty and Cascade Falls is one of the most photographed waterfalls in Ohio. After we were done exploring we checked in, showered and decided to hit Brewery 33 for a tasting while we waited for our takeout from Millstone BBQ. Restaurants are open in nearby Logan, OH but we preferred to take our dinner back to our cabin so we could settle in for the night.

The next day we had spa appointments at a place that shall remain nameless. If there is one thing I have learned throughout my travels it is that when things don’t go the way we plan, you just have to go with it! Our spa experience is one I will never forget and I will be leaving a Google review so others will have the opportunity to know what we experienced. If you decide to go to Hocking Hills and want to hit the spa, message me and I’ll let you know where to go vs. where not to go. I will say that I don’t remember a time that i’ve ever laughed so hard!!

Our last night was spent in matching St. Patrick’s Day sweaters from KJP and green converse in the spirit of the upcoming holiday. Even though I am not Irish I thoroughly enjoy celebrating! We hit a local Irish pub for some spirits, picked up dinner and headed back to our cabin to put on our pj’s and have a few drinks. One thing we also learned during our stay is that Uber and Lyft are not yet available in this part of Ohio so keep that in mind when going out. There is a local company called Hocking Hills Transportation but he was booked when we tried to reserve him. I would also like to mention that our favorite stop in all of Hocking Hills was the Coffee Shop! A must stop if you go. Amazing coffee, sandwiches and the best stoneware mugs. So good that I bought two because I couldn’t decide.

I would definitely recommend a trip to Hocking Hills! A great spot if you are looking to relax, see some incredible caves and have spotty cell service!
